5th Grade - Zentangles
Goal:
Create an abstract artwork that focuses on repetition or pattern by using lines and shapes I think the fifth graders thought I was nuts when I first explained this project to them. They had a lot of possibilities but once they got going with it they seemed to really enjoy it. We looked at a lot of art and how artists use the principles of art (pattern, contrast, and movement) with the elements of art (line and shape) in their art, like the artwork to the right by Gustav Klimt. They were expected to have at least 10 areas where they were creating pattern but also repeating elements of those patterns in other areas of their art. How they chose to create their design was up to them as long as they met the goal and had a least 10 different areas. I think my favorite part was listening to them talk to each other about ideas, ways to improve, and seeing them stand back from each others art to really look at it before giving input. I feel pretty lucky to work with such amazing artists! |
